You are invited to enter your favorite apple pie recipe for judging by a panel of dignitaries which will take place at the upcoming Apple Fest in Shoreham Vermont on Sunday, September 16^th from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm.  Pies will be judged based on 3 entry categories:

Individuals, teams and/or groups (e.g., school class, etc) can register for the contest.

Continue reading »]]> Shoreham village will be alive with Apple Fest on Sunday, September 16th at the town common and gazebo. Delicious food, live music, a silent auction and a farmers’ market will be featured at the afternoon-long event. Apple Fest is an annual fall fundraiser for the Friends of the Platt Memorial Library, and is a public event open to all.

New this year at Apple Fest will be activities for children, an apple display & tasting, cider pressing demonstrations, a used book sale and a contest that will determine the “Best Apple Pie” in the county! Held during the peak of Shoreham’s apple picking season, Apple Fest coincides with the Tour de Farms bike tour, which begins earlier in the day. Library volunteers will welcome returning bicyclists and Apple Fest visitors with an opportunity to purchase a hot soup lunch, an apple dessert and a cup of cold cider from the library food booth. Farmers’ Market vendors will be selling fresh vegetables and apples, bottles of locally produced wine and ice cider, cheeses, farm raised meat, honey, maple products, jams, jellies and handmade arts and crafts. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their coolers and fill them with some of the best local foods available.

The musical group Extra Stout and members of Split Tongue Crow (both of Rutland County) will entertain the expected 600-plus visitors. A silent auction to benefit Shoreham’s Platt Memorial Library will be ongoing, as will the library “store” which will be selling home-canned preserves, cookies, apples and used books. Continue reading »]]> The Shoreham Economic Development Committee (SEDC) is pleased to announce the arrival of the “About Shoreham VT” website, which was identified as an SEDC goal in our first B2B meeting back in January 2011.

At this time, the website features each of the businesses that were included in the last edition of the SEDC/Town of Shoreham brochure.  Please take a look at your listing and let me know if you’d like any changes and/or if you’d like a photo included.  Also, if you have some additional photos that would be good for the Photo Gallery, feel free to pass them along as well.  The website is still a work in progress and we’ll try to make improvements and add additional links and/or information on an ongoing basis.

The goal of the website is to promote Shoreham as a great place to shop, visit and live.  The website will replace the full sized brochure that we’ve created over the last 2 years.  In place of the brochure, we’ll will be creating color “rack display” cards (approx 3 x 8 in size), which will describe the types of businesses/services available in Shoreham and will include the website URL for further details/information.

In order to pay for the annual hosting fee, links to other website fees (if required), and the rack display card printing, we will need to charge a small fee for each business included on the website.  We’ve set up the fee schedule as follows:

• First time fee of $25 for new businesses.  (If you participated in the brochure last year, this fee will be waived.)
• Subsequent annual fee, starting in April 2013, of $15 to offset our annual website costs.
• Your listing can provide as much information as needed to describe your business including one photo and a link to your own business website.
• If you’d like us to include a Google map to your address (replacing the map in the brochure), just let us know.  At this time, the default is set to not include this, however, it can be easily added at your request.  You’ll see how this looks by checking out the Attractions web page (see the Boating Listing or the Covered Railroad Bridge Listing)

We plan to publicize the website through feature articles in the local newspapers and we will be adding the website URL to the printed brochures that remain from last year. SEDC members will be handing out brochures at the Champlain Bridge Celebration event coming up on May 19-20.  We are also investigating how the About Shoreham VT website can be linked into other Vermont websites (such as the Addison Chamber of Commerce, Tourism websites, etc.) some of which may require an annual fee.
